Quality engineering is paramount to any person wanting their machine to run well and function to its optimum. CK Ceramics have carried out the very same searches for bearings as we did for our carbon wheels. We traced the factories that make the goods for the big brand names and asked them to make some for us.

This is a tip I picked up when I lived in Thailand for a period. I knew the guy that made the shirts for Ralph Lauren. He told me an English guy had the same shirts made but under another brand. Clever but simple. You are breaking no laws by having the same made for you (so long as patents and reg’d designs are not infringed) and high end goods are obtained for a fraction of the cost.

The prices of goods in the cycling world is, in my opinion, a fairly false one. But then I think most markets are. Clothes, computer software etc. You don’t get to be a billionaire with any product without being able to ask at some point “can we charge less?”. Prices are kept high as distributers liaise with one another to keep them there. If you knew the price, per piece, the big brands pay you would surely gasp. It would make for a good documentary on TV. In France you will pay much more for Mavic goods than in the UK. It is a French brand! Why? Needless greed. Much like the banks.
